Cross-campus has always been one of those sports under the limelight. Our TH girls’ cross-campus has been doing some serious training even since the beginning of this academic year. Faced with intense competition from other halls, our cross-campus team was under tremendous pressure.

The race took place on 11 February 2009 (Wednesday), with SRC car park as the starting and ending point. There were altogether 6 runners and each runner was supposed to run 2.2km. The race started off with Cornelia, an exchange student from Germany. The team’s strategy was for the first two runners to make a lead, the next 3 runners to maintain the lead and the last runner to close up the gap if there is any.

Being a trained runner, Cornelia ran the 2.2km at 9 minutes 39 seconds. It was an amazing job done by Cornelia, especially considering all the stress she has to go through being the first runner! Kit Fei was up next. Known for her fantastic stamina and being one of the top trackers in NUS, Kit Fei completed her race in 9 minutes 30 seconds. Up to this point, TH was holding onto the lead.

The next runner was Heon. The general TH public usually views Heon as the charming, dainty girl with superb dancing skills. Little do they know the hidden talents of Mak Heon. Despite being only trained in dance, Heon is remarkably strong at slopes and finished her race in 10 minutes 11 seconds. At this point, TH had a lead of more than half a minute.

The fourth runner was Rachel Tan who also did a great job of finishing the race in a mere 10 minutes 26 seconds. The fifth runner, Sabrina managed to finish her race in 11 minutes 44 seconds although she had never ran the IHG route before.

The last runner was Zhi Yun who stunned us all. She finished her race in a mere 9 minutes! Our team ended up 2nd, with only 11 seconds behind KR.

Nevertheless, Alicia, the team captain, is proud of her team and would like to express gratitude to all her team members who trained so hard over the past few months. TH Rocks!
