TH Alumni Awards 2009

1. Zeng Xian Hong
picture1 Zeng Xian Hong – exemplary Temasekian, a senior of true character: a balance of academic exellence, organizational foresight and impressive athleticism. A familiar name to many within the walls of our hall, Xian Hong has served as a proud member of TH Orientation Committee, a councilor, a member of Xinyao, of Productions, and more. On the sporting front, Xian Hong has carried the flag of Temasek in events like softball, soccer, and track and field. However, none of them held a candle to his favourite, the game with a rattan ball – Takraw. A senior worthy of admiration and emulation, his many contributions to the hall were recognized when he was named valedictorian of the graduating seniors in academic year 07/08.
2. Linda Chua
picture2 Linda has been an active resident of Temasek Hall since moving in as a freshman in 2005. Amongst her numerous accomplishments, she is perhaps the most recognized in TH as an outstanding dancer. She was the female lead dancer in TH Dance’s Productions in her freshman years and has since improved and evolved to a large extent. Coined as the ‘dancing queen’, she co-headed TH Dance in her second year; and choreographed and performed in many dance items. Continuing to pursue her passion for dance and her love for TH, she came back even after graduation to help choreograph a very well-received item this year. Although she is known as an exceptional dancer, Linda’s talents are not limited only to that. She was a member of xinyao and frequently sings during hall events and performances. In addition, Linda is also a proficient volleyball player who has been on TH’s volleyball girls’ team for three years.
3. H. Hans Avinder
picture3 Graduated 1 year ago, Hans gladly agreed to coach the girls touch team to compete in IHG 08/09 despite his busy schedule. His passion for the sport and hall and more importantly his love for the team explain his utmost commitment and dedication in conducting trainings for the girls. Despite having to work on weekdays, there were several occasions whereby he sacrificed his leave just so that he could conduct training. Hans was not only a coach but also a teacher in life lessons, a motivator and a friend. Just the night before match day, Hans had faithfully written individual notes for the girls so as to provide the much needed encouragement and confidence. As the dark horse in the IHG, Hans made a what seemed impossible goal and dream into a reality allowing us to clinch the 1st runner up position. Without a doubt, Hans deserve the rightful credit and recognition to the amount of effort and time he has put into the team.
4. Ng Kok Hua
picture4 Graduated 1 year ago, Kok Hua was also the coach of IHG 07/08 girls’ team. When approached again, he gladly agreed to coach the girls touch team to compete in IHG 08/09 despite his busy schedule. In addition to assisting Hans with the skills/tactical trainings, Kok Hua was mainly in charge of the team’s physical well-being. As an active and excellent sportsman himself, Kok Hua is equipped with an extensive knowledge on fitness building. Concocting just the right amount of physical care and training, Kok Hua successfully turned the girls into “SPRINTING MACHINES” as what he has openly set out to achieve right from the start. As a result, we could easily beat the other halls hands-down in terms of our fitness. Like the other coaches, there is no doubt to the level of commitment and dedication Kok Hua has towards the team and the amount of sacrifices he has made. Kok Hua’s caring nature and extensive knowledge be it in skills or fitness makes him an asset to have. Hence, he definitely deserves due recognition as well.
5. Lim Zi Qi
picture5 Graduated 1 year ago, Zi Qi’s enthusiasm and dedication to hall are evident to all when he won the “Best Supporter” award in IHG 07/08. Despite having graduated, Zi Q still remains very much part of this hall. This is seen by his readiness to help coach the girls’ touch team when approached. Without fail, despite his busy working schedule, Zi Qi would come down for every “week day” training to coach the girls. This is excluding the weekend trainings which he would also make it a point to come help coach the team. Never rejecting any request for additional help or explanation to the game, Zi Qi’s love for the sport and team is reflected through his level of commitment and dedication. As trainings got more intensive and draining, Zi Qi injected a fair dose of fun by simplifying complicated moves with his humorous analogies. Zi Qi’s positive spirit to life and conviction in the things he does is definitely a model to anyone and everyone around him.
6. Gabriel Ho
picture6 Gabriel came back to coach the girls soccer team even after he graduated. He was there for all the trainings to monitor our progress and teach us new skills and tactics. He has been well planned in his coaching by consistently using the team cohesion approach. Before each match he would prepare the player mentally for the competitions.

7. Chen Jun Cong

At first glance, Jun Cong is your typical computer geek – he play loads of computer games and can fix your computer as well as he can hack into it. But Temasekians know he’s much more than that – as ex-Rag Head, ex-VPU Head, ex-Tech Crew Head and IHG keeper (handball, floorball, soccer), he’s a well-respected senior who has done it all in his 4 years here. We miss his unintentionally funny remarks and comical expressions which never fail to lighten up IHG trainings. And who can forget the spectacular save he made with his face (literally) in last year’s IHG handball match? While some people call it a hostel, he is one who has truly made a positive difference in this place we call home.
