Temasek Hall Opening Ceremony
Celebrating a beginning
The official opening of Temasek Hall took place on the 29th of September of 1989. This event was officiated by our guest-of-honour, His Excellency President, Wee Kim Wee. The opening ceremony was an event attended by all residents of the Hall and was the result of months of preparation by the TH Opening Ceremony Committee. It commenced at 10 am, immediately after the prompt arrival of our guest-of-honour, who unveiled the plaque which can now be found mounted at the main entrance to the Administration Building.
The President was then entertained by a fifteen minutes performance put up by the residents, after which he proceeded on a tour of the hall. The opening ceremony of Temasek Hall was an experience to remember for many, in particular those in the sterling committee who had a hand in doing something which would go down in the history of the hall.
Rhythm In Space
The Sculpture
This sculpture was designed by Kenn Yeo Kiam Hwee, a resident Architecture student, to commemorate Temasek Hall’s Fifth Anniversary.
According to Kenn:
The sculpture takes a form that conceptutlises the parallelism with the development of the Hall. It is the crystallisation of elegance in form with its orchestra of both linear and curvi-linear attribute in space. It is a sculpture that symbolises and compliment the steady and elegant pace in the development of this young and aspiring Hall.
Unveiled by Mr. John Yip, the Director of Education, on 6 August, 1994, which was the day the Hall celebrated its Fifth Anniversary, the sculpture now stands at the entrance to the Hall. There, it will continue to witness the development of our Hall in the years to come.
